Raised in Montreal, Alan Wilkinson developed an early interest in art that soon expanded into photography. In 1967, at age 13, he began learning photography from his uncle, documenting Expo 67 through hundreds of images while also learning to develop film and make prints. A graduate of Queen’s University, Wilkinson went on to teach art in Kingston high schools for 32 years before serving for 14 years as a lecturer in Queen’s Faculty of Education. His artistic practice is rooted in careful seeing, observation, rendering, and composition, exploring a wide range of subjects through diverse techniques.
